I would strongly suggest purchasing some Fabric Printer Sheets at your anesthyl comforter or trade reservoir shop. This textile cum in pretreated 8 1/2 x 11 sheet made for your place pressman. Question by springi: how do you cross stitch a pre-finished quilt?
I am thinking of buying a cross stitch baby quilt kit, for my friends who is having a baby but as the quilt is already finished (apart from the cross stitch) how do you back and secure the thread?
Please point out any websites/videos that might help me

If it is a kit then it should tell you how to complete the cross stitch. All kits have instructions and how to complete the item. Even if it is something as simple as a bookmark or a pouch.
You could try asking at a craft shop that sells cross stitch kits see if they could tell you.
Also if you have seen a quilt kit take the manufacturers name and web address and ask them how it is completed with the cross stitch.
